I confirmed a trip, but it didn't happen. Can I cancel it?
It is very important to keep the dates of your experience updated on the platform! Whether it's changing dates or starting a new experience, it's extremely important that all the details of that experience is on the platform. In other words, even if you and the host talk to each other outside of the WP platform, it is essential that both of you confirm the trip. 🙂
This ensures our insurance coverage (if necessary) and also your safety, both parties can leave feedback at the end of the experience so that other members can know what it's like to volunteer in that place. It's worth noting that it's very important for the host and traveler to align expectations, ask questions, and agree on dates of interest for both parties before confirming an experience.
To change the dates of an experience, there are several paths, and we will show you all of them here!
1. Change dates of a confirmed trip on Worldpackers that has not started yet
If your trip is already confirmed on Worldpackers but it hasn't started according to the dates agreed on the platform, and you need to change them, talk to your host on the platform and ask them to send a new suggestion with the new dates agreed between you.
Once the host sends the new pre-approval, you just need to confirm it, and you're all set! Just pack your bags for your trip 💙
If you reject the new pre-approval, the dates of the previous trip will remain confirmed. And if you accept, the previous trip with the previous dates is canceled, and a new trip is confirmed with the new chosen dates!
2. Change dates of a confirmed trip on Worldpackers that has already started
If the trip has already started according to the dates agreed upon on the platform, it's only possible to change the departure date (either to leave earlier or extend the stay). In this case, just ask the host to make the change and confirm it on Worldpackers.
3. Change dates of an application (without a confirmed trip)
3.1. If the host has already pre-approved you
In this case, you can go into your conversation with the host and click on the "suggest new dates" button, and they will then analyze if they are good for them. If it matches what they need, they will send a new pre-approval, and you can confirm the trip.
3.2. If the host has not yet sent the pre-approval
In this case, you can cancel the current application in the button below the message field in the chat with the host (as shown in the image below), and after that just make another application with the new dates. Another option is to inform the host about the new dates in the current application by talking about it in your conversation, so they send the pre-approval with the new dates if it's good for them too. Remember that this option is only possible on the web, okay? It's not yet possible on the app. :)
4. I confirmed a trip, but it didn't happen, can I cancel?
After confirming an experience, if you need to cancel, simply click on the "Cancel my stay" button in the chat with the host and send a message to the host notifying them of the cancellation.
If you cancel the trip with 7 days or less in advance, you will automatically receive a public review on your profile with the words "Traveler canceled last minute." If you do not cancel and do not show up for the experience, you may receive a public review on your profile of "no-show."
We know that unexpected events happen, but please remember that when you confirm an experience, the host prepares to receive you on the agreed dates, and last-minute cancellations can be very prejudicial to them. Therefore, it is super important to only confirm experiences that you are truly interested in, okay?
💡 An important note: it is not possible to confirm two experiences on Worldpackers with overlapping dates, okay?
