Bring a Friend — FAQ
FAQ for the Invitee (the friend who was invited)
What is Bring a Friend?
Bring a Friend is a referral program between travelers. If a friend who already booked a Group Trip or Epic Trip shares their personal invite link with you, and you book the same trip using that link, you and your friend can each earn $50 in platform credit once the trip is completed and both of you have paid in full.
How do I know I was invited by a friend?
When you open the invite link, you'll see a banner on the trip page letting you know you're in an invite flow, along with an explanation of the benefit before you book.
Do I need an account to book through the link?
Yes. You'll need to log in or create a Worldpackers account to complete your booking and be eligible for the credit.
Can I use the link if I already have a booking on that departure?
No. If you already hold a spot on that specific departure, the platform's existing rule of one trip per user applies, and the booking through the link will be blocked.
Does the link expire?
The link itself has no separate expiration date. You can book through it as long as spots are still available and the trip is still open for sale. Once the trip is full or closes for sales, booking through the link is no longer possible.
When do I actually receive my $50 credit?
Your credit is unlocked only after both of these happen: (1) you and your friend have both completed full payment (deposit + program fee); and (2) the trip has taken place and was over. Before that, your credit will show as In progress or Awaiting completion on your trip overview.
Where can I use my credit?
As a discount on the deposit of any future Group Trip or Epic Trip — there's no restriction on trip type.
How long is the credit valid?
Once unlocked, your credit is valid for 3 months to book another trip. You'll get a reminder 15 days before it expires, and it can't be extended.
Can I use the credit before the trip happens, or transfer it to another trip?
No — the credit only unlocks after the original trip is completed, and it can't be redeemed early.
What if I cancel before completing full payment?
If either you or your friend cancels before paying in full, no credit is generated for either of you.
What happens if I cancel after paying in full, before the trip departs?
If either you or your friend cancels after full payment but before the trip takes place, the credit is not generated for either of you. This applies regardless of which of you cancels.
What if Worldpackers cancels the trip?
It depends on whether you and your friend had already completed full payment (deposit + program fee) before the cancellation. If you had, your credit is maintained for both of you — you're not responsible for a cancellation on our end — and in that case, your 3-month validity window starts counting from the cancellation date instead of the original trip end date. If the cancellation happens before both of you have completed full payment, no credit is generated.
If I already used a credit and the trip I booked with it gets cancelled, do I get it back?
It depends on who cancels that booking. If you cancel it yourself, the credit is not refunded. If Worldpackers cancels that booking on our end (for example, an unresolved booking that gets auto-cancelled, or the slot itself being cancelled), the credit is returned to your wallet.
What if there's overbooking on my departure?
Priority is expected to follow the platform's standard overbooking policy, but the exact criteria for Bring a Friend bookings specifically still needs to be validated.
Can I become an inviter myself?
Yes! Once you've booked, you'll get your own personal link and can invite friends too. If you were invited and also invited others, you may end up with two separate credits — one for being invited, one for inviting — each shown separately in your wallet.

FAQ for the Inviter (the traveler sharing the link)
What is Bring a Friend?
Once you've paid your deposit for a Group Trip or Epic Trip, you get a personal invite link to share with friends. If a friend books the same trip using your link and you both complete full payment, you can each earn $50 in platform credit after the trip is completed.
Is this an affiliate program?
No. There's no generic referral code — your link is personal and tied to your specific trip departure. It's meant to bring someone you know along on the same trip, not a general marketing link.
When do I get my invite link?
As soon as you pay your deposit, you'll see a "Bring a friend" option on your trip overview page, near the "Who is Going" section. From there you can access your personal link and share it via WhatsApp, Instagram, SMS, or by copying the link.
Can I invite more than one friend?
Yes. There's no limit on how many friends can use your link — the only limit is the number of spots available on your departure.
Do I earn credit for every friend who books through my link?
Yes. Everyone who books using your link is eligible for the credit, as long as there's still room on the departure.
Will my link work for other trips too?
No. Your link is tied specifically to the departure you booked. It can't be used for a different trip or a different departure date.
When will I see if a friend booked through my link?
You'll get a notification when a friend completes a booking using your link, and you can track the credit status (In progress / Awaiting completion / Credit confirmed / Not eligible) from your trip overview.
When is my $50 credit unlocked?
Only once both of these are true: (1) you and your friend have both completed full payment (deposit + program fee); and (2) the trip has taken place. Once unlocked, the credit is added automatically to your wallet.
Where can I use my credit?
As a discount on the deposit of any future Group Trip or Epic Trip.
How long is the credit valid?
Once unlocked, it's valid for 3 months, with a reminder sent 15 days before it expires. It can't be extended.
What happens if my friend books but never completes full payment?
No credit is generated for either of you in that case.
What happens if I cancel before completing full payment?
No credit is generated for you or your friend.
What if I cancel after paying in full, before the trip departs — does my friend still get their credit?
No. If either you or your friend cancels after full payment but before the trip, the credit is not generated for either of you — this rule applies the same way regardless of who cancels.
What if Worldpackers cancels the trip?
It depends on whether you and your friend had already completed full payment (deposit + program fee) before the cancellation. If you had, your credit is maintained for both of you, since the cancellation isn't on either of you — and your 3-month validity window starts counting from the cancellation date instead of the original trip end date. If the cancellation happens before both of you have completed full payment, no credit is generated.
Does inviting a friend give either of us priority for a spot?
No. If there's overbooking, priority is based on who completed payment first, regardless of whether they booked through an invite link.
Can Creators or Travel Buddies use this program?
No — Creators and Travel Buddies of that specific slot/departure aren't eligible for Bring a Friend, since they're already covered by their own commission structure. The feature won't appear on their trip overview for that departure.
If I invite someone and they later invite their own friend, do I get credit for that too?
No — credit is only earned for the direct pair you invite. If your friend invites someone else after booking, that's a separate pair with its own credit for them.
