To make the experiences even better and find travelers aligned with what you're looking for, it’s essential that you maintain your positions updated and with all your project’s requirements!
One of the most important information to travelers is to know about your project’s additional fees, so that they can prepare themselves when it comes to travel costs and to understand better if that opportunity is the right one for them.
The additional fee is an amount charged once, or per day, week or month, and it’s a contribution from travelers to help with your project’s sustainability.
What is the purpose of an additional fee?
To buy materials for the activities, as a donation or to help fund benefits/infrastructure for travelers (meals, energy, accommodation, wi-fi, and others).
At the moment, any host can ask for an additional fee, but this requirement should only be used to support projects that don’t have any other financial means to fund itself. Ecological and social hosts are the most recommended for this feature!
Charging an additional fee will affect the number of applications I receive?
Hosts that charge an additional fee usually receive a lower number of applications, so it’s essential that you only add this requirement if it’s really necessary, in order to not lower your position’s reach.
Another important point is try to maintain your additional fee at a similar cost from other hosts in your area, this way your position will be as attractive as the other ones available on the platform. Therefore, it’s worth checking other positions in your regions to know how much the other hosts are asking the volunteers to contribute.
How to add an additional fee in my positions?
To add an additional fee in your positions, go to your profile > click on “Volunteer positions” > “Edit position” > “Requirements”.
At the end of the Requirements page, you’ll see the question “Do travelers need to pay an additional fee to volunteer with you?“, you just need to change the answer to “yes” and fill out the amount, frequency and the purpose of the contribution.
Extra fee Policies
At the moment, Wordpackers doesn’t have a specific policy for additional fees, since all the negotiation and payment are the host and traveler’s responsibility.
However, we recommend that hosts have their own rules regarding their extras fee when it comes to possible cancellations, reimbursement, early departures, and more!
We ask that you add this information in the contribution explanation field and as a question your Screening Questions, this way the volunteer will have to agree, or not, with your rules before sending their application.
Important: At the moment, it is not possible to edit positions through the app, so we ask that you access the profile using our website to carry out this process. :)
